Happy Valentine's Day, MacLife.com readers! To show our love, we've assembled a handful of news stories that, while not very romantic, will hopefully warm your heart on this fine Thursday, February 14 just the same. So before you head off to snuggle with a loved one today, let's reflect on the Wednesday just passed, shall we…?
Bloomberg: Apple Has Team of 100 Already Working on "iWatch"
With no Apple television in sight, the rumor mill has turned its attention to the mythical "iWatch" instead. Bloomberg is reporting that the company has a team of "about 100 product designers" already hard at work on a "wristwatch-like device" capable of performing many of the same tasks the iPhone and iPad already do. According to two people familiar with the plans, the team has grown significantly over the past year, suggesting Apple may no longer simply be experimenting with the idea and moving it forward toward eventual release. Analysts seem to think it's the right move, with T. Rowe Price Group fund manager Josh Spencer remarking, “There’s more people that would wear an Apple watch than would wear Google glasses." We have to concur...
Pinnatta Interactive Messaging App Free for Valentine's Day
Gipht.me Inc. has announced a Valentine's Day partnership with Appoday for Pinnatta, an iPhone app for sending interactive messages. While the app is already free, the promotion serves up a normally premium-priced "Love Radio" card that can be personalized with a voice message, a $3.99 value. If you're out of other ideas for your sweetheart, Pinnatta also includes a number of other love-themed interactive cards, including one that uses Play-Doh to spell out "I Love You." Hey, we wouldn't mind receiving one of those… just saying...
FireCore Releases aTV Flash (black) 2.2, Seas0nPass Jailbreak Updated
Now that a jailbreak for iOS 6.1 is in the wild, it's finally trickled down to the folks at FireCore LLC, who announced a new version of their Seas0nPass jailbreak for the second-generation Apple TV, as well as an update to the aTV Flash (black) software itself. Version 2.2 adds support for Bluetooth keyboards, which was one of the key features of Apple's latest update, but aTV Flash (black) also includes improvements to backups, DVD playback and a handful of other bug fixes. Now for the less-good news: Many of your favorite third-party plugins have not been updated for the latest Apple TV software, including Plex, Remote HD, Rowmote and XBMC, so if you use any of those, you should probably sit tight and wait for further word on support for those.
Adobe Slashes Australian Prices Following Government Pressure
The Australian Financial Review is reporting that Photoshop maker Adobe has "bowed to public pressure" only a day after being summoned to a parliamentary committee hearing over how the software giant prices its wares in that country. Adobe has now pledged to cut the price of its Creative Cloud suite -- previously AU$62.99 per month -- to match that of U.S. customers at AU$49.99 per month. Likewise, month-to-month pricing has dropped from AU$94.99 per month to AU$74.99 per month. No word on packaged retail copies of the same products, and the Federal IT Pricing Inquiry still awaits testimony from Apple and Microsoft over the same accusations.
Pocket Updates Safari, Chrome Extensions with Autocomplete Tags
The folks at "read it later" service Pocket have announced an update to their official web browser extension for Safari and Chrome, and it's one that organizational junkies will love. The browser extensions now autocomplete tags as they are typed -- no more struggling to remember which tag you want to apply to content you're saving for later consumption. The version 1.5 updates to Pocket also include one-click saving from popular sites such as Reddit, Twitter's Discover page and Hacker News as well as support for Retina Display screens.
