If your workday consists of running any kind of Windows application or even multiple instances of OS X Lion, you’re no doubt excited about Parallels Desktop 7, the latest version of the virtualization software arriving September 6, complete with OS X Lion support and a new mobile app.

Parallels has announced the release of the seventh version of Parallels Desktop for Mac, a major new update to the leading virtualization software which users turn to for running Windows and Linux side by side with their Mac, no rebooting required. The latest version, which starts shipping September 6, includes more than 90 new and enhanced features topped off by full OS X Lion support -- including the ability to actually run additional instances of OS X Lion as a guest on the same system, which should have Mac developers jumping for joy.

“As Macs have become more popular than ever, a growing number of Mac users, including enterprises, find they need to run critical Windows programs on their Macs,” explains Parallels CEO Birger Steen. “Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac lets you run popular apps like Windows Internet Explorer, Access, OneNote, Quicken and more, even the most demanding graphical programs, without rebooting and without compromise on speed and usability.

Among the features of Parallels Desktop 7 is a new look and feel, complete with support for OS X Lion technology such as Full Screen, Launchpad and Mission Control for your Windows applications. A new “Switch to Mac” Edition includes a high-speed USB transfer cable to make it easier than ever for Windows users to make the change. Shared iSight and FaceTime HD cameras now work in both Windows and Mac applications as well.

Of course, Parallels Desktop 7 is about speed, too. The previous version handily beat out the competition in more than 4,000 benchmark tests conducted by MacTech, and the latest version aims to widen the gap even further. Start, stop and resume Windows quicker than ever with maximum speed and performance for 3D and graphic intensive applications with up to 1GB of video memory, with music, movies, videos and games now supporting 7.1 surround sound.

Finally, the Parallels Mobile app has also been updated -- it’s no longer free but now allows users to access Mac or Windows applications and documents from your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch from anywhere, at any time, complete with sound (even for Flash videos) as well as cut and paste within Windows.

Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac will be available to new users for $79.99 starting September 6, but existing users can get in the action right now with a $49.99 upgrade available immediately from the Parallels website (the same pricing will also be extended to those crossgrading from competing VMware Fusion). An all-new version of the Parallels Mobile app is now available from the App Store at a discounted price of $4.99, which will go up to $19.99 in the near future. Current users can update for free by simply downloading the latest version.
