Unless you've been living under a rock for the last 18 months you've probably heard of the augmented reality flying video game/real world quadrocopter that is the Parrot AR.Drone. We've seen this thing at every industry trade show or publicity opportunity imaginable (though it's still admittedly pretty cool.) Now the company has announced a new promotion: an online flying competition.
We're a little bit fuzzy on the details, but we do know that competitors will have to complete a series of challenges while video taping the acts. They'll then need to upload the videos to the web before August 14, and Parrot's panel of judges will have the honor of selecting the very best of the bunch.
The finalists will be honored in Paris in October in an official finals competition where they'll have to showcase their amazing acrobatic prowess. The press release doesn't list a prize of any sort, and it doesn't say whether they'll be paying for the trip to Paris.
Regardless of how many times we've seen the Parrot AR.Drone (which, for the uninitiated, is a real toy helicopter drone piloted with an iPhone) we're kind of looking forward to seeing some of the acrobatic videos produced for the challenge. It will be neat to see what some people are able to pull off. If any other them are particularly spectacular we'll consider doing a bundle post with the best videos.
