According the the newest patent application filed from Apple, your iPhone may be able to atuomaticalled update your home screens local weather, time, maps , and contacts all based on it location. The patent was filed in Feb. of 2008 for "Transitional Data Sets." The description states current user interface is clunky and cluttered, and this new interface would dramatically streamline the users experience.
The iPhone would utilize location-aware applications on the home screen, much like widgets you would have on your desktop, and they would adjust according your your current GPS location, or using cell towers to triangulate your location. Another possibly neat feature is that this automatic location update may also change icon images. When reenacting the high speed chase scenes from The Bullitt in San Francisco, the icon on your phone would show a little image of the Golden Gate Bridge, or when you fly over the NYC to punch your Wall Street broker in the nose, your icon would show a nice little NYC Skyline.
You will also be able to save preset Transitional Data Sets that would load upon reaching certain location.
"If the user's home is in New York, then the user may configure a "weather" widget to display the weather in New York as a default," the filing reads, "and such default information can be persistent. If the user travels to San Francisco, the user can touch the "Here" button... and the "weather" widget will automatically display the weather for San Francisco... Thus each time the user travels to San Francisco, the location-aware mobile device... can automatically populate the "weather widget with transitional data associated with San Francisco."
We are looking forward to Transitional Data Sets to come into play. Yelling at interns all day takes a toll on you at night. We would much rather treat an object with no soul lovingly.
