It wouldn't be surprising to have the A4 in iPhone if it is possible to fit it into the size of it. Apple tries hard to standardize on components as much as possible which is common manufacturing process in order to keep costs low by buying in bulk. Usually you see a new iPhone come out then an equivalent iPod touch that uses new components. My guess is they use iPod touch as an avenue to reduce down older components after iPhone launch to keep up with overall demands up until the launch but not have component inventory left. The same may occur now that there is a similar device more in demand than the iPhone and the iPhone and iPod touch may now be used to offset older component inventories before they are upgraded.
Of course that is still just a theory...
