The war of the weirdest continues at a frenzied pace these days as App Store game creators are coming up with ever more bizarre ways to make their games stand out against the competition. Just recently we took a look at Destructopus (which we hear is doing very well on the App Store) then there was Laser Dolphin, and now we have Pizza vs Skeletons. It's the latest in a batch of strange games that are exactly what they sound like.
The game is so weird that even the creators, Riverman Media, are having a hard time truly describing it. To put it simply you roll around as a giant pizza squashing skeletons. As for how that will actually play we haven't the slightest clue. Though Riverman has said that they're focusing on enhancing the feeling of being a giant rolling pizza. Which will probably be the strangest sentence we publish this week.
Pizza vs Skeletons may represent a new high water mark for weirdness on iOS. The big question that remains is whether or not it will actually be any good. The developers reportedly shelved this project a few times out of fear that it wouldn't be any fun, and now are proceeding with development because they say they've made some breakthroughs.
The developers themselves aren't even sure the game will be good. "In fact, it goes so far off the course of anything we've attempted so far, I'm concerned that it might be our most colossal failure ever," the developer writes in a blog post announcing the game. "How do you hype up something that has no clear genre, a nonsense plot, and a main character that's a thirty foot tall conglomeration of cheese and tomato sauce?
If nothing else, their honesty is a welcome change of pace compared to the slew of hundreds of apps per day that all claim to be the next Angry Birds.
