The touch-screen stylus sure has come a long way, and few companies have set the standard for the device quite like Ten One Design. So, it's fitting that on the five-year anniversary of the company that brought us the capacitive touch screen stylus, Ten One has announced details on the brand new Pogo Connect.
Apps like Paper by FiftyThree -- a personal favorite -- should benefit quite a bit from the advancements Ten One has built into the Connect. Even if you're a relative novice, who just enjoys the occasional doodle on the iPad, a decent stylus makes a world of difference.
First, the Connect stylus takes advantage of Bluetooth 4.0 for quick pairing with your iPad. And on a single AAA battery, Ten One claims the stylus will keep its charge for "months."
More importantly, the improved pairing means increased pressure sensitivity and barring out those illegitimate palm presses on the iPad screen. Pressure sensitivity is increased through a "patent-pending" technology, Crescendo Sensor. The new system requires no calibration (nice), works at any angle, and understands a huge array of pressure levels.
But one of the coolest new features of the Pogo Connect is the magnetic tip. If you've ever used a stylus to draw on an iPad, you know the tip can play a big part in the experience. Ten One apparently understood, and the stylus' end is removable. Obviously, the potential for an array of new tips sounds great.
Lastly, the Connect also features a built-in wireless transmitter. Just open up your iPhone or iPad, and it's possible to locate your missing stylus. Granted, it's probably under the couch again.
A big question, however, is whether or not that removable tip could cause problems. Sure, interchangeable tips are great, but not so much if it keeps falling off. We'll be sure to let you know all of our thoughts on the Pogo Connect when we get our hands on one.
