With all of the attention that Apple’s forthcoming iCloud initiative has placed on cloud computing, one wonders how some of the pioneers in the field will react. In the case of Pogoplug makers Cloud Engines Inc., the response appears to be a new, low-cost mobile-centric device for the home that allows streaming to anywhere.
Cloud Engines Inc. has announced their latest multimedia streaming product, Pogoplug Mobile. Available in October for a wallet-friendly $79.95 SRP, the company’s first mobile-focused hardware product is a sleek little package that aims to free users from the storage limitations set by iCloud and other services, allowing customers to stream entire libraries of photos, music and movies from their homes to both mobile phones as well as tablets.
Optimized for iOS as well as Android devices with companion free apps available in both the App Store and Android Marketplace, Pogoplug Mobile offers unlimited, instant streaming of entire media libraries. The company bills it as a perfect companion for Apple’s forthcoming iCloud, and Android users can also benefit by using Pogoplug Mobile as an automatic home backup of all photos, movies, music and other documents.
“People today have an almost unlimited need to create and consume multimedia content on their mobile devices,” explains Daniel Putterman, CEO and Founder of Cloud Engines. “Unfortunately, their devices just can’t keep up; mobile storage remains too expensive. Pogoplug Mobile solves this problem by providing an incredible streaming and at-home backup solution that turns any mobile device into an limitless media library.”

With the spotlight currently on services like Facebook over privacy concerns, Pogoplug Mobile also provides a better method for users to share unlimited amounts of photos, videos and other content from mobile devices with friends and family, both instantly and most important, completely privately.
“With iCloud on the horizon, the timing for Pogoplug Mobile couldn’t be better,” Putterman concludes. “If you’re an iOS user, Pogoplug Mobile will be a perfect at-home iCloud companion. For Android users, it’s at-home iCloud for Android.”
Pogoplug Mobile will ship in October for $79.99 SRP, but Cloud Engines is now accepting preorders from their website.
