Yesterday's revelation that PopCap would be debuting a new version of Plants vs Zombies exclusively in China was a bit of a surprise to us. Just a day later we're now getting word that PopCap will also be debuting a completely new service in Japan next.
The service is called Pop Tower and will be available on GREE, Japan's largest social network, boasting 25 million users. "This new game service is the first product released under the supervision of PopCap’s Tokyo office, and is representative of PopCap’s vibrant global strategy, which has generated major announcements in APAC in the past 12 months," reads a press release sent to us by PopCap.
Clearly, PopCap is focusing its resources on expanding their fan base around the world. Their gaze seems specifically focused on East Asia with China, Japan, and even South Korea getting all-new exclusive content. This is a very clear signal that PopCap takes those territories just as seriously as it does North America and Europe.
What does PopCap have up its sleeve next? Honestly, at this point we dare not even hazard a guess. We can only hope that it involves more great games for North America and Europe as well as the rest of the world. Though 4th and Battery has been producing some solid work, so maybe we shouldn't ask for too much.
