If you need to share files from your computer with other internet users, there’s no easier way to do it than Presence, the app formerly known as FarFinder. With this week’s 2.7 update, the developer has improved reliability for the software as well as making the marquee feature EasyConnect absolutely free unless you transfer a lot of data.
Flying Mac has announced the availability of Presence 2.7, a substantial new update to the popular file sharing application for the Mac. Presence allows for remote access of any Mac it’s installed on as well as file sharing, complete with a universal iOS app and web browser version that makes it a snap to access files on your desktop from anywhere.
With Presence 2.7, developer Adrian Ross has made one of the application’s star features a freebie for many users. EasyConnect is a built-in solution for setting up the software with your local network when a direct connection to your router is not possible. In the past, EasyConnect required an extra $5 for 2GB to help cover the bandwidth on the developer’s side, but up to 200MB per month is now free for all paid users of the application. You can also purchase extra data at $5 for 2GB.
Better yet, Presence 2.7 now uses EasyConnect as a backup for times when your router misbehaves. Rather than suddenly blocking access to Presence as it has in the past, the new version will fall back to EasyConnect, indicated by the menu bar icon turning blue instead of its usual black (a red icon means the connection has dropped entirely).
“These changes mean that Presence now works first time for most people,” Ross explains in an email to current customers. “So now, you can recommend Presence even to people who aren't computer-savvy.”
Presence 2.7 is now available as a free update for current users and a 20-day free trial download is available for new users and costs only $40 when the trial is up. A companion free universal iOS app is also available for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users.
