In case you were stuck under a rock this morning, and couldn't get to the nearest live blog (including ours), Steve Jobs has announced that Apple will be offering free bumpers and third-party cases with every iPhone 4 purchased up until the September 30. Additionally, those who have purchased bumpers will be able to get a full refund until that date.
If you're not happy with your iPhone 4, you can return it within 30 days without having to pay a restocking fee.
Apple then announced that it will be releasing the white version of its iPhone 4 later this month, and that the proximity sensor issue should be fixed. Also, the iOS 4.0.1 update that was released yesterday is intended to fix the signal bar strength issue, as well as a Microsoft Exchange folly. And, in case any of you are interested, here's a look inside the iPhone 4 testing labs.
Jobs also spoke out against the negative press, basically saying that it's a bit lame and tiresome. He then added that the problems afflicting the iPhone 4 aren't exactly unique, and mainstream news outlets with non-specialist staff have been too quick to report on the issue, almost as if it's the first time something like this has ever happened. He also hopes that the lack of iPhone 4 cases available at launch date wasn't an indication of disparity, and that he and the staff at Apple are very satisfied with the antenna design of the phone.
At the question and answer segment at the end of the conference, Jobs also addressed the Bloomberg article, speaking out against the idea that Apple engineers were aware of the antenna problem during production. He then added that he tries to respond to emails as often as he can because they are his customers.
Apple will also be holding their Q3 press conference next Tuesday. Hopefully we'll get more sales figures by then.
