This weekend, Radio Shack is due to become the second largest seller of iPhones in the nation according to AppleInsider. The retailer is planning on launching a front page ad to commemorate the launch of Apple's handset in its stores.
Starting March 28, the electronics retailer is due to launch the iPhone in 3,000 of its 4,500 stores, which is the first part of an expansion that will allow it to jump ahead of both AT&T as well as Best Buy when it comes to actual brick and mortar stores that have it available for in store activations. Only Walmart has it in more stores.
As part of the promotion, Radio Shack will be showing off the entire slew of iPhones in its March 28 ad. The store will be offering the 8GB iPhone 3G for $95, the 16GB iPhone 3GS for $195, and a tab of $295 for the 32GB iPhone 3GS.
Radio Shack also maintains a Trade-In Program which will allow consumers to grab a new iPhone for much less than the original cost. It allows consumers to give up their old handset in exchange for a Radio Shack gift card that they would then turn around to use toward an iPhone or another item.
As an example, if one is bringing back a 16GB iPhone 3G, that Radio Shack deems to be in "fairly good condition" could reel in a gift card for $171. Granted the phone would have to be locked into an expiring or expired 2 year deal. This could bring the cost of a new phone to $25 before tax and AT&T's $36 activation fee.
