Increasingly popular and super-awesome social music streaming service Rdio announced today the release of their newly updated Mac app, hot on the heels of a revamped iPhone app. The app is free to download, though you need to have a paid subscription to Rdio to take proper advantage of it.

If you're unfamiliar with Rdio.com, it's an online music streaming service with a strong social aspect -- you can listen to music your friends listen to, or others using the serice -- and you can synch music for offline listening. The service is nicely priced: "Rdio Web," which is limited to web-based listening, is $4.99/month, while "Rdio Unlimited," which allows web, mobile, and offline access, is $9.99/month.
In addition to the basics, the new Mac app lets you do a bunch of other things. From Rdio's blog:
- Control your music with your keyboard's media keys -- play, pause and skip tracks directly from your keyboard.
- Listen to music beyond the browser -- enjoy Rdio.com's familiar features, such as New Releases, Top Charts and Recommendations, right on your desktop.
- Jumpstart your Collection -- use Match Collection to see which music from your iTunes library is in Rdio's catalog.

If you're not an Rdio user currently, they offer a commitment-free two week trial of their service. You don't get access to all of the mobile services, but it's enough to give you a taste of what the Rdio experience is. If you're already an Rdio user, and you're using the AIR-based Rdio app, you can update to this new, native app.
