Everyone loves a new version of a useful utility app, especially when it brings with it great new features. Readdle is a company that doesn’t disappoint when it comes to ladling on the functionality and improving their apps with every new release, and this week’s Scanner Pro 2.0 is no exception.
Readdle’s Scanner Pro 2.0 is the latest version of the company’s portable document scanner for the iPhone. A free update to the $6.99 app, Scanner Pro 2.0 adds Google Docs integration, camera stabilization, automatic edge detection and passcode protection for the entire application.
While some folks might get by with using their iPhone camera to snap a quick shot and send it via e-mail, Scanner Pro gets the job done more effectively and professionally. In addition to the ability to scan multi-page documents, you can also upload them to popular services such as Dropbox, Evernote, MobileMe iDisk or any other WebDAV server.
Newly added Google Docs integration allows users to upload scans page by page to their Docs account and convert them into text documents for later editing on a desktop computer. You also have the ability to upload an entire document as a PDF file.
Scanner Pro 2.0 has also added camera stabilization to prevent images from getting blurry while taking photos, with the application choosing the best moment to snap the shot so hand movement is minimized. Users will also appreciate the new automatic page border detection, which finds the document edges on your images and crops them accordingly. Finally, the new passcode protection helps prevent unauthorized access to your scans.
If you frequently find yourself out and about with a need to scan a quick document, Scanner Pro will quickly pay for itself in no time. After all, your iPhone already does so many things, why not add one more trick to its utility belt?
Scanner Pro 2.0 is available now from the App Store; the 2.5MB app is compatible only with the iPhone and requires iPhone OS 2.2 or later.
