As much of a mobile revolution as Safari on the iPhone was, the browser isn’t for everyone. Just as there are choices on the desktop, there are now plenty of options on iOS for a different mobile browser -- and one of the latest for the iPad has hit the App Store with a slick new update.
Readdle has announced the availability of Terra 1.2, a new version of the company’s free web browser for the iPad. Best known for productivity apps such as Readdle Docs and PDF Expert, the company appears to have a hit with Terra, which recently ranked in the top slot for free iPad apps in the U.S.
Terra 1.2 adds some features highly requested by its user base, including the ability to import bookmarks from desktop versions of Safari, Firefox and Chrome. This feature alone solves a thorny problem recently discovered in a Readdle customer survey that shows the lack of bookmark import was a key reason why users abandoned third-party browsers in general.
The new update also adds tabbed web browsing with an unlimited number of tabs and the ability to quickly switch between them. Along with on-page text search, full-screen browsing, private mode and the ability to save web pages and download files for offline viewing, Terra’s feature set continues to reach for desktop-quality results.
"Each day Terra users spend over 500,000 minutes on browsing the web which is equal to 1 year time period. These solid numbers grow every day. Now, with the added bookmarks import feature, we expect the product to grow even more rapidly," says Alex Tyagulsky, Readdle CMO.
Terra 1.2 is now available from the App Store; the free app is compatible with the iPad only and requires iOS 3.2 or later.
