Lost amongst the flurry of Macworld 2011 late last week, Verizon Wireless announced rates for their voice and data plans on the iPhone 4 -- not to mention how much it will cost you to switch on that awesome Mobile Hotspot feature.
If you’re ready for the long-awaited CDMA-based iPhone 4, Verizon Wireless is ready for you -- and your wallet. Late last week, the carrier finally announced their voice and data rate plans for the device after playing coy at last month’s announcement.
On the voice side, you’ll have a trio of plans to choose from. Infrequent talkers can get 450 minutes per month for $39.99 (additional minutes are 45 cents per minute), while the chattier amongst us can sign up for 900 minutes per month for $59.99 (additional minutes at 40 cents per minute), which includes unlimited calls to five people you choose, regardless of what network they’re on. Last but not least, you can talk forever with a $69.99 per month unlimited plan.
Text messaging is available for 20 cents per SMS or 25 cents per MMS on an as-needed basis, or you can get 250 messages per month for $5, 500 messages per month for $10 (both plans are 10 cents per text over your limit) or go hog wild with unlimited texting for only $20 per month.
Last but not least, the question(s) we’ve all waited for: How much will data cost, and will it be unlimited? The good news is that iPhone 4 data will indeed be limited -- at least for the first few months. $29.99 per month will get you that lusty unlimited 3G data, or you can add another $20 per month to add the Mobile Hotspot feature, which comes with its own 2GB of tethering data (that’s $49.99 per month for the mathematically challenged).
Of course, AT&T sent out e-mails to their loyal customers this week reminding them that you won’t be able to access 3G data and make a call at the same time on Verizon (a limitation of the CDMA network), so we’re not sure how much of that unlimited data you’ll be slurping down to begin with.
Existing Verizon Wireless customers can preorder an iPhone 4 beginning on Thursday, February 3, while the rest of us have to wait a week, until everyone can get their hands on one February 10.
