Assuming the rapture doesn’t take you on May 21, Apple could have something exciting brewing for Sunday, May 22 after an early morning Apple Store meeting with employees. Could it be the company’s annual back to school promotion?
AppleInsider is reporting that Apple could launch its annual back to school promotion as early as next week, according to their sources. The yearly event has offered “a free or discounted iOS device” to those purchasing a new Mac, and the timing seems in line with recent rumors of something big going down at Apple Stores on Sunday, May 22, where employees are expected to attend “early 7 a.m. store meetings.”
Many reports have assumed that Apple will use the meetings to kick off some kind of 10th anniversary celebration for the company’s retail stores, with the first two opening their doors on May 19, 2001 in Virginia and California. Apple’s long-awaited MobileMe refresh -- complete with a cloud-based music service -- could also be on deck.
AppleInsider now believes that Sunday’s meetings may be less exciting -- that is, unless you’re in the market for a new Mac and wouldn’t mind a free iPod touch thrown in. The company’s back to school promotion could launch early next week, according to sources.
“Additionally, other people familiar with next week's plans say some of the materials and shipments rumored to be making their way to stores around the same time will be part of 'procedural changes' to the way the shops run or operate, rather than new products customers could buy,” the AppleInsider report reveals.
Apple kicked off their 2010 back to school promotion on Tuesday, May 25 with a free 8GB iPod touch thrown in with every Mac purchase. AppleInsider notes that 2009’s event started on Wednesday, May 27, while both 2008 and 2007 had the back to school promotion slipping into early June (Monday, June 2 and Tuesday, June 5, respectively).
