Remember BlackBerry 10? Although the revamped mobile platform has become more notable for its delays than innovation, it seems Research in Motion will finally be letting the cat out of the bag in January.
Inside BlackBerry: The Official BlackBerry Blog, has announced a January 30, 2013 launch event for the new BlackBerry 10 platform after numerous delays and a whole lot of hand-wringing by analysts, who have most recently predicted the mobile OS may be dead on arrival.
Research in Motion is rightfully far more bullish on their prospects, with the launch event being held simultaneously in multiple countries around the world and promising "details of the smartphones and their availability will be announced."
“In building BlackBerry 10, we set out to create a truly unique mobile computing experience that constantly adapts to your needs," said Thorsten Heins, President and CEO of Research In Motion in a press release Monday. "Our team has been working tirelessly to bring our customers innovative features combined with a best in class browser, a rich application ecosystem, and cutting-edge multimedia capabilities. All of this will be integrated into a user experience -- the BlackBerry Flow -- that is unlike any smartphone on the market today.
"Thanks to our strong partnerships with global carriers and a growing ecosystem of developers, we believe our customers will have the best experience possible with BlackBerry 10," Heins concluded. "We are looking forward to getting BlackBerry 10 in the hands of our customers around the world.”
It remains to be seen if RIM will take a cue from the Apple playbook and start shipping these products within a week or two of the launch event, or whether already suffering BlackBerry users will have to wait even longer to get their hands on one.
