AppleInsider has a piece on how a joint venture of competing publishers that make magazines such as -
The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Time, People and Sports Illustrated - are combining to form a venture that would make their magazines available for devices including the iPhone.
While the deal is not yet final, it is reportedly "very close," to being just that. The magazines would be available on Apple's iPhone device and the heavily rumored tablet device. People familiar with Time Inc. have said that the group of publishers have already been in talks with Apple about putting the magazines on the tablet.
Magazine publishers have always had their qualms about attempting to create their own forms of digital distribution. However the thinking is that if they are able to actually cooperate and create a joint venture, then the chances of succeeding would be greater.
In addition to Apple's products, the publishers are also taking aim at embracing Amazon's Kindle, and Research in Motion's BlackBerry.
