Apple's push notification system has certainly been a great utility on our iPhones to help us stay abreast of the latest news, sports scores, tweets, Facebook status updates and the like. However, if you happen to have a string of them right in a row, it can get to be a bit of a mess. Apple reportedly has taken notice and could be aiming to release a new notification system for iOS.
Cult of Mac is reporting from one of their sources that Apple is working on revamping the system, and in the process will be looking to buy a small company to build the technology into iOS.
There had been grumblings over the course of the last year that the iPhone notification system would be adjusted when the chief architect of Palm's system, Rich Dellinger came back to Apple. Alas, here we are and the system still has yet to be updated. Now though, according to the source, Apple is looking to scoop up a small app developer to give the service a facelift.
The source also claimed that despite not knowing the identity of the company, it already has an iPhone app in the App Store.
Speculation is that one candidate could be Boxcar, which is a free app from App Remix which gives users the capability of push notifications for Twitter, Facebook, as well as email. Both this app, as well as the iPad version have received high marks.
Cult of Mac also mentioned that they put out an email to App Remix's CEO Jonathan George, inquiring about App Remix being scooped up by Apple. He had no comment.
Hmm….
