More fun with rumors!
A new secret-squirrel-supported theory floated today by AppleNApps alleges that Apple will release a free (with a two-year contract) version of the iPhone this fall along side a revamped iPhone 5. Apple's supposedly internally referring to this new device as the iCloud iPhone because it will apparently rely on the new iCloud service in place of internal storage.
AppleNApps claims to have three independent sources, all connected to Apple in different capacities, that apparently confirmed that Cupertino "intends to launch two iPhone models in the fall with a full upgraded iPhone 5 as expected, as well as a cheaper iPhone which will be the iCloud iPhone."
This iCloud iPhone would allegedly retail for $400, which would then be subsidized with a two year carrier contract. The iPhone 5, according to the site's sources, would remain at the $600 retail price, available for $199 with a two year carrier contract. Apparently, all of your stored content would come directly from the cloud, which certainly would lessen the component cost of such a device, but would put all of the workload on a streaming platform -- iCloud -- that has not even launched yet.
The report also claims that there will be a special Apple event to launch both phone, and that "the iCloud iPhone will be the big takeaway from the event." Apparently iCloud will also be launched at that event, or just prior, but either way will be up and running in time to support the new device.
Oh, rumors.
