As 2010 winds to a close, speculation has already turned to what new hardware Apple might bless us with in 2011. As it turns out, there’s a decent chance we’ll see upgrades to the iMac as well as the MacBook Pro in the first half of next year.
MacRumors is reporting that the iPad won’t be the only thing on Apple’s mind in early 2011, with upgrades to both the iMac and the MacBook Pro likely appearing in the first half of the new year. According to DigiTimes, the upgrades could be fairly substantial.
“The sources noted that Apple plans to launch at least four upgraded MacBook Pros as well as an iMac that features a new panel size and a price point for the mainstream market,” DigiTimes noted in its brief news item.
DigiTimes’ “sources” appear to be “upstream component makers,” who also claim that Apple should have “no trouble” shipping 10 million notebooks this year, with the forthcoming upgrades -- including “a slight change in chassis design and an upgrade to the new Lion operating system” -- helping Cupertino to grow their laptop shipments next year by 30 to 40 percent.
Finally, the report claims that “Taiwan-based Quanta Computer and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) are expected to share orders for the new devices,” which shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to most anyone familiar with the company’s manufacturing plans.
