So the once-thought mythical phone is finally coming to Verizon, and one of the features being highly touted is the capability to use the device as a mobile hotspot. But what about GSM users of the iPhone? Will they be able to use something similar? Well if a rumor about iOS 4.3 is true, then yes!
Personal hotspot support will come built directly into the operating system of the Verizon iPhone 4, which will be sporting iOS 4.2.5.
However, both iPhoneclub.nl and iPhoneHellas are saying that users of current GSM iPhones will be able to expect the same personal hotspot support, once iOS 4.3 is released. But there could be a hitch.
The hitch being that the functionality of a mobile hotspot would be left to the vices of each individual carrier, and it would require them to be allowing of their customers to be able to access such a feature. What's AT&T's take? They're said to be "evaluating" the feature, but had "no plans to announce today".
Certainly remember though how long it take AT&T to bring tethering about. Regardless though, a little competition never hurt though, right?
