Support for a Bluetooth keyboard is already built into Apple TV, but this feature will be activated when iOS 5 is released this fall, according to a report and video from 9to5Mac.
According to the report, users will be able to pair a Bluetooth keyboard using the standard settings menu. The findings came from digging in the SDK and indicate that the option will be available on the $99 Apple TV.
Currently, iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch users can connect to the Apple TV with the Remote app. This app gives users the ability to toggle through menus, make selections, and even type in basic information. The interface of the app is really slick, so much so that it begs the question, "Why would I want to use a keyboard?"
The hope here is that bluetooth keyboard support opens the door for a new, robust platform of Apple TV apps, possibly including Mail or Safari. Now that would be something to type home about.
