Guardian reports that, according to "carrier sources", the special security boxes that contain the iPhone 5 have arrived at carriers for testing, and this supports a September release for the much-rumored device.
"Murmurings that the next iPhone won't appear until October are being echoed all around the web, but they don't fit the way that Apple operates - nor with the details emerging from carriers," Guardian claims. According to the report, "carrier sources tell me that the boxes in which the new iPhone hardware is encased have been transported to carriers for testing" and that "the next iPhones go for their testing inside locked and sealed boxes so that the carriers can carry out checks on their network compatibility in their labs."
Based on this source, Guardian specifally challenges yesterdays claim by AllThingsD that the iPhone will be out in October, and instead states that this information supports a September release.
Do we now have a tech blogger battle brewing, with a Camp September Release vs. a Camp October Release?
"Either way," Guardian claims, "the new iPhones are in the system, which means they now just have to get approval - which will probably only take a few weeks at most - and can then be signed off for manufacturing."
iPhone 5 rumors are heating up, baby.
