According to DigiTimes, the companies contracted to build the parts that will make up the next iPhone are firing up their production lines. Industry sources tell DigiTimes that Taiwanese suppliers are ready to begin volume shipments of the iPhone 5 soon, with Foxconn already cranking out 150,000 units a day.
The report states that Largan Precision (lens maker), TPK Holding (touch panel maker), G-Tech Optoelectronics (reinforced glass supplier), and Simplo and Dynapack (battery vendors) are "all operating at full swing capacity."
DigiTimes estimates that shipments of the iPhone 5 from this supply chain could reach 5-6 million in September and possibly over 22 million units in the fourth quarter. This increase in iPhone 5 production will mean, of course, that suppliers will ship less of the older model iPhones during that same time period.
The sources also reported to DigiTimes that Pegatron has landed about 15 percent of iPhone 5 orders but may not begin shipping until 2012.
