Ahh... the day before an Apple event. The rumor mills are churning and you can smell the freshly baked rumor pies coming out of ovens everywhere. New rumors today suggest that Apple may be overhauling the look of the iTunes Store, bring streaming video coming to iOS devices, and is Predicto really that predictable?
iTunes Store Overhaul
This rumor comes courtesy of iPodNN, who discovered that despite new music being added to the iTunes Store today, the highlighted sections and displays remain the same as they were last week. Like magic, Apple puts up new content on iTunes every Tuesday. Typically, however, they will miss a day right before an event if the iTunes Store is scheduled to receive a makeover. This just happens to be one of those times, and may mean that the iTunes Store will get some love tomorrow in the form of a interface update.
Streaming Video from iTunes Store
Streaming video and music has been on the radar of every rumor site on the planet for the past few months. However, this rumor comes straight from the Cupertino-based company themselves. That's right: Apple may have made of of their famous slip ups in a recent survey that was sent around to several iPad owners.
Engadget reports on the survey that asked, "What are the primary reasons for your satisfaction with the video content you've purchased or rented from iTunes and watched on the iPad?" In one of the possible responses, Apple made available the option for, "Titles are available to watch instantly."
Currently, the iPad requires a video file to be downloaded completely before it can be viewed on the device. iTunes on the Mac (or Apple TV) also enables users to load a bit of the video, and then play it while the rest of the data is buffering. This could mean, however, that the current model of "Buffer, Then Start Watching" could come to the iPad.
Predicto, 4 rly?
One of the fun things about Apple events are the rumors that come before the event is scheduled to begin. There are a lot of great rumor websites that provide a lot of insight into what Apple may release, and some of these websites may even be correct.
Predicto, the cellphone text message game that lets you predict outcomes to events to win prizes, has gotten in on the Apple event action. Over 75% of the votes cast for the Apple event said that Steve would unveil a new Apple TV.
Unfortunately, this will most likely have little accuracy because it's just a bunch of people voting on what they want to happen. No research, no industry insight, nothing. Just a vote.
