Ah, nothing like the sweet smell of an Apple rumor. While the rumor of a smaller and cheaper iPhone has certainly been around for awhile, Bloomberg reported today that Apple is indeed trying to bring this to fruition.
The report is that yes, Apple has been working on concocting a way to release a secondary, smaller edition of the iPhone at a much lower price. While Apple already does have a cheaper version versus the standard $199 and $299 price tags on current models, it's always been the prior year's model.
The difference though, is that the price point of $99 on select prior year models is still carrier subsidized. The thought is that Apple is aiming to release an iPhone that could be considered cheap without ANY subsidization, such as an iPhone under $200 with no contract requirement.
More than likely though, carriers would be vastly opposed to this, such as what happened with Google's phone.
Regardless, the product lineup from Cupertino this year should be a good one!
