Finally, the Taiwanese Economic Daily News got the scoop on who will be allegedly supplying parts for the rumored 7-inch iPad. We know they're still just rumors, but it's still nice to dream.
The current iPad screen is manufactured by LG, but the new one will supposedly be supplied by Chi Mei. Au Optronics would supply the touch layer. Of course, everything will be of the same quality. For assembly, Apple will not go to Foxconn, but to a new Compal factory (they already make e-readers and tablets, so it seems appropriate).
The Economic Daily News also mentions that the new iPad should be much lighter, weighing in at about 1.1 pounds--a bit lighter than the 1.5 pounds of the current model. They don't offer much more in the way of technical details, but when it comes down to it, we'll just have to see what Apple throws at us with their next product release!
