Tom's Hardware, recieved word from super-secret sources that NVIDIA's Ion prototype would be adopted in to the new Mac mini.
If Apple does go with the Ion platform consisting of a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, and the Nvidia 9400M, it will potentially mean that the Mac mini will get a substantial upgrade. The rumored source told Tom's Hardware that Apple will be launching the the new Ion and Atom powered Mac mini in March.
These upgrades will actually be more of a downgrade in performance of the current Mac mini running on an Intel Core 2 Duo chip, which is much faster than the Atom. The Ion/ Atom tag team would result in a smaller machine.
The Ion would work well in a netbook, or updated Apple TV, since the Ion is a low powered CPU. Don't hold your breath on an Apple netbook, Apple doesn't seem to be a fan of the netook. We would love to see an Apple TV update in the near future.
