Looking for an upgrade to the standard graphics card packed into your Mac Pro tower? Sapphire has officially launched the HD 7950 Mac Edition, offering a huge boost in frame rates and other performance factors. And in terms of flexibility, the card is capable of running in either a Mac or Windows machine.
"Exclusive to SAPPHIRE, the HD 7950 Mac Edition is based on AMD’s latest Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture," reads today's press release. "This highly acclaimed architecture delivers a significant graphics performance boost for Mac Pro users in a wide range of applications including gaming, audio or video editing, and content creation."

According to Sapphire, the HD 7950 improves gaming frame rates by as much as 200 percent, in comparison to the NVIDIA 8800GT card found in most Mac Pro units. The card includes 3GB of GDDR5 memory, and provides support for OpenGL 4.2 and OpenCL 1.2.
The HD 7950 includes two mini DisplayPorts, pushing out a max resolution of 3840 x 2160 on either monitor. The card also contains an HDMI port and Dual-link DVI port.
Keep in mind, you'll need a 2010 or later Mac Pro with a PCI-Express x16 slot to use the HD 7950. But thanks to a dual firmware switch, you can also use the Mac Edition with a Windows PC.
Newegg is currently selling the Sapphire card for $480.
