One really has to wonder if Motorola rushed its Xoom announcement to steal a bit of thunder from -- or capitalize on -- the iPad 2 announcement. Also, just asking: Does anyone reading this article really think Apple's new tablet will be called iPad 2?

I think that apple placed the announcement 1 day before the Xoom launch to get potential Xoom buyers to take a look at the iPad (2, 2nd gen, electric boogaloo, too).

The iphone followed a number scheme iphone, iphone 3g, iphone 3gs, and iphone 4. Ot it could simply be like the ipod touch, no name change, just a generation label in the SKU.
