If you weren't surprised enough to learn that Eric Schmidt was leaving
Apple's board of directors, then perhaps his pay will be a surprise. Over the
past two years, he was hardly paid enough to make Apple a viable "job." MacNN reports on some SEC documents that detail exactly what Schmidt received since 2007.
Among his pay: Apple products totaling to $8,712, "commemorative gift" totaling $7,580, and $14,631 to help with tax penalties. This type of pay is measly when compared to the normal board of directors pay, which consists of at least 30,000 shares of Apple stock and $50,000 annual fee.
Schmidt stepped down due to a possible conflict of interest between the two companies. As you may know, Google is currently building their own OS (Chrome OS), they have a mobile OS as well (Android), and oh yeah, they also have a web browser (Chrome). It was great to see the interaction between Apple and Google and hopefully that won't end with Schmidt leaving.
