Just a month ago, we were all still speculating about the iPhone 5. Of course, pretty much every single rumor about the device panned out on September 21. But at the end of August, there was some concern over Apple's display suppliers being able to keep up with the huge consumer demand. According to new report, it seems Sharp may have indeed stumbled, but are now chugging right along.
According to Reuters, a Sharp Corp executive -- who requested anonymity -- gave an update on the company's relationship with Cupertino and iPhone 5 displays. Apparently, he asked for anonymity in a press conference? OK, then.
Cupertino uses three different suppliers for iPhone 5 displays: Japan Display, LG Display, and Sharp. While neither Sharp or Japan Display seem to openly acknowledge themselves as suppliers, Apple has already identified both companies as contracted for the work.
The iPhone 5 display features a new 4-inch screen with in-panel sensors. Back in August, it was rumored Sharp was finding it difficult to keep up with demand on the new technology, and had fallen behind. According to the Sharp executive, the manufacturing facility is now up to snuff.
Just days after announcing the iPhone 5, Apple was forced to delay pre-orders by as much as four weeks.
According to a September 14 report from Deutsche Securities analyst Yasuo Nanake, the initial round of displays likely only came from LG Display and Sharp Display. Furthermore, the new displays are "exceptionally difficult" to produce.
Thankfully, it sound like the issues are being resolved, and we can all have a fancy new iPhone 5 in out hands before the holidays.
