To the surprise of virtually no one, Samsung has made good on their earlier threats to sue Apple for patent infringement over the iPhone 5, which has only been in stores for just over a week.
Reuters is reporting that Samsung has followed through on several earlier threats to sue Apple over its new iPhone 5 after the Korean manufacturer got its hands on the device upon its release on September 21.
"We have little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights," Samsung explained in a brief statement.
Samsung claims the iPhone 5 infringes on two of its UMTS wireless patents as well as six "feature patents" the Galaxy maker has already lobbed at previous models of the iPhone.
The case in question revolves around Samsung's Galaxy Nexus, but is currently scheduled to be heard by the same court who handed Apple a recently $1 billion victory against Samsung. Ironically, the lawsuit isn't expected to kick off until 2014, by which time we'll have all forgotten about the iPhone 5 anyway.
