Skype updated its iPhone application today to enable push notifications for incoming calls, notifications for incoming chat messages, and multitasking for iOS 4. With multitasking, you can keep your VoIP call going while you close the application to navigate through your device-even over 3G. There's also an announcement that may shock some Skype users.
When the previous update was released that enabled VoIP calls over the 3G network, it was announced that Skype would soon be charging for that service. Today, however, Skype has had a change of heart, saying, "We no longer have plans to charge a supplement to make calls over 3G. We’re delighted to make it easier for you to talk for even longer and do even more together using Skype." This is because of the AT&T data caps that were placed on iPhone and iPad users last month.
You can download the new update today on the iTunes Store [iTunes link here].
