Before you ask, no, we're not entirely certain why Sonic needs to drive a car in this upcoming racing game. We weren't sure when this title was released last year on consoles either. Our guess: it would look weird if he was running next to the cars of his opponents in a kart-racing game. There's one thing we are sure about: we're pretty excited about this game getting its release on iOS platforms.
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is essentially the Sega version of Nintendo's popular kart-racing series, Mario Kart. The only difference of course is that instead of Mario, Luigi, and friends the game stars the noticeably weaker cast of Sega's video game stars. There are a few great characters, but a hefty amount of them are likely to make you murmur, "who the heck is that?"
Thankfully, the game at least has Amigo from the old Dreamcast game, Samba De Amigo, whose amazingly entertaining "all-star move" forces all the other racers to line up behind him in a conga line while he shakes maracas on the front hood of his car. All of the other characters have similarly entertaining moves of that ilk, but none are nearly as fun.
Details are still sparse about this new port, but it's unlikely that it will stray too much from the surprisingly good Nintendo DS version. For fans of the kart racing genre this is about as good as it gets in lieu of a Nintendo-made Mario Kart iOS game.
