The rumor mill seemed certain that Apple was going to release OS X Lion (along with new MacBook Air models) on Thursday, July 14 that many people felt disappointment, anger or outright betrayal -- despite the fact the company never confirmed the rumor in the first place.
AllThingsD is reporting that leading speculation about Apple releasing OS X Lion alongside new hardware (including refreshed MacBook Air models) this week was simply wrong. Thursday, July 14 came and went with only the American debut of Spotify to tide us over, but the website is now claiming we should get excited for next week instead.
“The rumor sites are off by a week,” one source has told AllThingsD, claiming that Apple will “uncrate the eagerly anticipated updates to its MacBook Air line late next week.”
Claiming “an announcement Thursday or Friday” of next week, the site also appears to confirm the hardware specs leaked by AppleInsider, including Sandy Bridge processors, Thunderbolt I/O port, backlit keyboard and more flash storage, now available in either 128GB or 256GB capacities.
The site says nothing regarding the fate of Mac OS X Lion, which Apple is planning to release in July. It’s widely believed that new hardware is being delayed so the company can release with Lion preinstalled, which would seem to indicate that the big cat will get uncaged next week as well -- but let’s not forget, there’s a whole other week after that, should Apple decide to take their sweet time.
