According to our Mad Scientist's Handbook, more eyes means more vision.
EA has confirmed that Spore Origins for the iPhone and iPod touch is on track to launch in September. Mac Spore will release on September 7, but because that falls on a Sunday, mobile players might have to wait until Monday to get it at the App Store. We recently gave the near-final mobile version a few tilts and learned how it differs from versions of Spore.
As we previously learned, Spore Origins snips the cell stage from the Mac game. Your tiny creature swims around goo full of food and foes, trying to eat or avoid at every encounter. The game felt responsive to our tilts, sending the creature through several of the 35 levels. Unique to the iPhone, we tried prodding the creature in a design area, reshaping its body and attributes to better survive. Pinch gestures even resized parts of its body, and the game can skin the creature with an image from your photo library.
Because some of the parts and game design differ, EA told us that we won’t be able to transfer an iPhone creature to the Mac edition. Even without that compatibility and its limited scope, Spore Origins could be a fun diversion. EA hasn’t yet announced a price.
