The heavens parted, and Spotify has finally blessed the people (at least the ones with Premium accounts, anyway) with a new universal update to its iOS app, adding native support for the iPad -- and that’s not all.
Our long national nightmare is finally over, with Spotify updating its iOS app to 0.5.0 on Wednesday, and while the version number may lead one to believe there’s not much new, iPad owners will be thrilled to discover the app is now universal, bringing native support for their favorite Apple-branded tablets.
While iPad support by itself would probably be enough for most of us, Spotify has gone the extra mile by making sure the update includes Retina Display graphics for the new iPad, complete with “high-definition album art” that looks great on the bigger screen.
“Love, discover and share music like never before with the Spotify iPad app,” the app description reads. From the little time we’ve poked around, it’s quite an impressive offering, allowing for search of playlists, users and music all from the same view, grouped inbox entries by user and full-screen view and AirPlay integration so the app makes a great substitute for a living room stereo, assuming you own an Apple TV.
Spotify isn’t leaving iPhone and iPod touch users left empty-handed, either -- version 0.5.0 includes new gapless playback and cross fading for all users, along with a couple of bug fixes related to offline synced playlists and crashes while updating playlists or starring tracks.
Of course, you’ll need a Spotify Premium account to enjoy all of this big-screen goodness, but if you already have one, the 12.4MB download is absolutely free from the App Store. New users can also give the app a spin with a 30-day free trial. Kudos to the Spotify gang for making this one a reality at last!
