Rumor site, MacRumors, obtained a side-by-side comparison photo of the iPhone 3G and allegedly the new unannounced iPhone [insert new name here].
The iPhones look nearly identical expect for the matte finish on the back of the mystery iPhone. This coincides with some of the rumors that have surfaced lately.
The legitimacy of the mystery iPhone photo, is as with any spy photo prior to a product refresh, suspect. Someone could have run down to the local hardware store and purchased some sand paper. See, that shop class in junior high wasn't a waste after all.
Apple is expected to announce a new iPhone at WWDC and release said iPhone in July.

That doesn't look like someone took their iPhone into shop class and used sandpaper to me. The details of the icons and labels looks way to clean and professional. Plus the silver ring around the camera is now gone, something that also seems to confirm other rumors of the metal band around the phone going bye-bye.
So, I believe it...expect for the one spelling error.
