Here at Mac|Life we're nerds for a lot of things, but rarely before have all of our nerditudes been so masterfully exploited simultaneously. Today we learned of a game that not only runs on our favorite gaming platform, but is also a mash up of one of our favorite games of 2010 and an awesome sci-fi setting that seems to be a spoof of (or direct homage to) Star Trek.
It's called Star Command, and the formula is said to be taken right out of modern iOS management simulations like Hot Springs Story and Game Dev Story from Kairosoft. Except, rather than managing a hot springs resort or a game development company, this time you're managing your very own space ship.
You'll be able to build the ship however you please as you judge everything from what types of components you'll install to the types of missions you'll go on. Will you include long range scanners for reconnaissance missions, weapon bays for combat, or diplomatic facilities? It's all up to you as you go on all sorts of missions throughout space. You'll also have control over which people you hire to become members of your crew.
If this game is even half as amazing as its concept then we'll be sinking entire weeks into this. We'll be keeping a close eye on Star Command as War Balloon steers it nearer to release sometime this Summer.
