Starbucks has been offering customers free songs from iTunes each week since April 2008. Usually right next to the cash register is a stack of cards with "Pick of the Week" printed on the front and a unique code printed on the back. Grab a card with your coffee, type the code into iTunes, and start downloading a free song. It's a cool thing.
Well, the coffee giant has just sweetened the deal.
This week, you'll find a "Pick of the Week" card for a free app from the App Store.
And not just any app, but Shazam Encore, which normally sells for $5.99. Shazam listens to whatever music is playing, identifies the song for you, and then offer you the ability to see the lyrics or share it with friends You can even buy the song through the app.
It is unknown if Starbucks will continue the free app program next week, if free apps will replace free songs, or if both programs will be offered together.
Either way, if you are in Starbucks anytime soon, be sure to get yourself a copy of the "Pick of the Week" before they're all gone.
