It's the moment you've all been waiting for, Apple faithful. Valve's digital distribution client, Steam, is now officially live for the Mac OS X operating system. Head over to Steamgames.com to download the application. Additionally, Valve is offering Portal for free as a special launch offer to new Mac gamers, available until May 24.
Though you won't be able to tap into Valve's library of games, there are quite a number of games to choose from to start off your Steam library. Click here for the Mac compatible game titles offered in the Steam store. In the following weeks, Valve will also release a new group of games highlighting an area of Steam functionality every Wednesday. This week's titles highlight Steam Play.
Mac users who purchased The Orange Box through the Steam client for Windows will have access to the games once they become available.
"The Mac is a great platform for developers," said Gabe Newell, president of Valve. "And it's also great that we now have the ability to connect with Mac gamers via Steam. This is the beginning of a groundswell of games coming out for and fully utilizing the openness and power of the Mac."
If you do manage to get into the Steam client today, come over and join our group! Stay tuned for fun events like Frag the Editor Fridays.
