Electronista reports that a new Crowd Source study shows that Blackberry owners haven't developed long-term affinity for their devices. The study revealed that 39% of current Blackberry owners said they are "very likely" to buy an iPhone as their next device. Another 34% said they expect to try an Android next.
These numbers are especially striking when you consider that an incredible 92% of current iPhone users expect their next phone to use the iPhone OS. Android owners are on the whole happy as well, with 87% of them saying their next phone would likely use the Android operating system.
Electronista opines that it's because twice as many of the iPhone and Android users said they were using it just for personal use as the Blackberry people. In other words, a lot of people are only using the Blackberry because their company wanted them to do so--and aren't particularly happy about it.
The Windows juggernaut was built on locking people into applications they couldn't do without (whether they liked them or not). No doubt the iPhone loyalty is based on the incredible number of high-quality apps that people don't want to give up. That should be a wake-up call to the Android folks that if they don't beef up their application offerings, this loyalty honeymoon could come to a quick end.
