The fine folks at PC Mag have a new study showing that AT&T has the fastest 3G data speeds in the country, but is trailing behind the newer 4G speeds.
With AT&T's highest maximum speeds testing at 2.75Mbps, the carrier proved to be faster than other carriers that have 3G. The newer HSPA network tested better in 6 of the 18 cities that PC Mag looked at. One of those cities was, surprisingly, San Francisco, a city known for the bad AT&T network service.
Sprint's WiMAX 4G network proved to be the fastest cellular data service, peaking at 3.14Mbps.
AT&T did had the most sporadic service. But, AT&T has noted they will be expanding their 7.2Mbps HSPA network throughout this year and the coming years. AT&T has also announced its plans to release HSPA+ 14.4Mbps cellular connections in some of the larger markets.
