Apple is an International push over when it comes to iPhone restrictions. First we let in you in on the MMS app to be provided by Swedish carrier TeliaSonera, now it seems that Apple is going to allow the Taiwanese iPhone carrier to personalize their iPhones with custom services.
Chunghwa Telecom has revealed custom service app for the iPhone called Hami. Hami consists of 11 services like news, weather, stocks, audio/ video and imaging content. No word on if Hami is a custom website or native app. Although the image above suggests a web app. It could just be a mock up of the app.
CHT hasn't announced pricing for the iPhone yet, but it's rumored that the 8GB is gonna be free with a 2yr contract, and the 16GB could go for about $90 US. The prices similar to to a majority of plans in the Taiwan, but probably won't include any free calls or data bundles.
It looks as thought Apple is rethinking its stance of carriers customizing the iPhone. Apple has traditionally refused to let carriers make major modifications to the iPhone's interface, but international carriers have found workarounds to this restriction. We're curious how long it'll be before AT&T gets Apple's blessing to add custom apps. Is it that the US is the red-headed step child in the eyes of Apple, or is AT&T the weird cousin that Apple allows to play tag, even though he runs around hitting people. We're not sure.
