The passage of time has claimed another would-be iTunes holdout, as heavy rock legends AC/DC have finally come to the digital storefront, complete with live albums, collections and even ringtones.
For whatever reason, some musicians don't embrace iTunes the way its users do, and choose to sit on the sidelines instead of offering their music as digital downloads. Reportedly unhappy with how iTunes shatters the album playing experience, AC/DC has been one of those holdouts -- until today.
"Four decades of high voltage rock 'n' roll and now available and Mastered for iTunes," the band's new artist page on iTunes reads. "Get the music that has inspired generations of hard rocking, fist pumping and air-guitar playing."
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, AC/DC has arrived on iTunes, and it's not a half-hearted invasion, either. The band is offering 25 albums, ranging from EPs to studio albums and live releases, and even a huge collection of ringtones from the band's greatest tracks.
For completists, the $149.99 AC/DC: The Complete Collection will get you everything you could possibly imagine for one low price, including an iTunes LP with detailed essay and photos from the band's 40 years of hard rocking.
If you're not such a fan of live albums, iTunes is also offering the $99.99 AC/DC: The Collection, which gathers all of the band's studio albums in one digital box set, from High Voltage all the way to Black Ice, and it still includes an iTunes LP with complete photos and liner notes.
No word on what prompted the band to finally cave in, but it's not hard to imagine that CD sales are drying up over time as a new generation of fans sit out buying shiny optical discs in favor of finding AC/DC through other, less-legal means.
