"People love their iPads," Apple CEO Tim Cook remarks as he announced a new milestone of 100 million units sold of the company's market-leading tablet.
Racing through a flurry of new Mac products including a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, a refreshed Mac mini and an all-new iMac, Apple CEO Tim Cook took the stage again to talk about the iPad.
First up was the announcement of 100 million iPads sold to date, a record the company soared past two weeks ago. Noting those sales took place only during the last two and a half years, Cook remarked, "that's unprecedented for a new product in a new category."
"We sold more iPads in the June quarter than any PC maker sold of their entire lineup," Cook added, despite a flurry of new tablets being introduced on an almost daily basis.
"What is amazing to us is how quickly iPad has been embraced in education," Cook elaborated, announcing a new version of iBooks Author coming to the Mac App Store for creating "rich, engaging multitouch textbooks."
"Today, we're announcing the latest version of iBooks Author and it includes some incredible templates," Cook said. The Mac e-book creation app also includes new fonts and the ability to create your own, along with multitouch widgets and the ability for publishers to push updates easier than ever before.
The new version of iBooks Author hasn't been pushed to the Mac App Store at this writing, but the new version of the free app should be available later today.
