'Tis the Season for Unlocked iPhone 3G
Posted 12/16/2008 at 12:21:42pm | by Danny Estrada

The masterminds over at Dev Team have had their indentured elf servants working hard all winter in order to give the gift of carrier free gab! They have successfully unlocked the iPhone again. This time, the iPhone 3G.

And just like Christmas, there is a catch. No, not the forced cookie sacrifice to appease the insatiable needs of a beloved holiday figure head. The catch here is that the current crack will only work with iPhone 3Gs that have baseband version 2.11.07 or earlier, and the iPhone 3G needs to be jailbroken. The Dev Team has also posted holiday warnings of using QuickPwn jailbreaking tools and against updating by official firmwares without first waiting for Pwnage Tool to work with it. Let's not forget the inability to boot an iPhone into DFU mode with the latest OS X update. Dev Team has provided a naughty or nice list of guidelines that can be viewed here.

Although Dev Team is claiming a successful unlock, they still need to give this bad boy a nice user interface. Expect the first launch of a user-friendly software on December 31st.
